A cyclist received serious but not life threatening injuries after hitting a car at the junction of Scott's Hill Road and Somerset Road around 7.15 p.m.

And a two vehicle accident at the junction of Roberts Avenue and Palmetto Road at 7.25 p.m. is also being investigated. No further details were available last night.

ROAD CLOSURE TFC Road closure A Hamilton city centre road is expected to be shut for much of today to allow the City Hall roof to be painted.

The road -- which runs between City Hall and the car park, linking Church Street and Victoria Street -- is expected to be closed in the morning and not re-open until late afternoon.

Part of the City Hall car park will also be shut off, as will the small car park to the rear of the building.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt said the move was to avoid cars being spattered with white paint as workmen give the roof a fresh look using spray guns.

But he added the closure was dependent on the weather being suitable for painting work.
