exhibition today at Port Royal GC starting at 5.30 p.m.
The 36-year-old Canadian, who has won 95 of 117 long drive competitions worldwide between 1983 and '92, etched his name in the Guinness Book of Records by hitting a golf ball 684.8 yards on an airport runway strip at Fairmont, British Columbia.
The drive beat the previous mark set by Liam Higgins in 1984 on an airport runway in Dublin by 50.7 yards. On June 6, 1988, Murray defeated Yasushi Taki, a four-time Japanese long drive champion and Mike Gorton, a 1987 long drive champion, with a drive of 381 yards from atop the Pacific Hotel in Vancouver.
Murray's achievements this year include winning the World Indoor Open Driving contest with a drive of 339 yards and the B.C./Alberta/Saskatchewan Open Driving contest. He was also second in the Canadian Long Drive Championship with a drive of 324 yards.
