Fredjun Hughes, of Rockland Road, Warwick has denied wounding with intent and wounding June Hayward, of Smith's Parish, on September 11, last year.

A third charge of attempted murder was dropped by the Crown.

Earlier this week, the seven-man, five-woman jury heard Ms Hayward describe how she met Hughes on September 11 near Devil's Hole after repeated attempts to get money from him to repair her bike which he had borrowed and damaged.

Ms Hayward said she was at a dock, near the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Sound Road, looking for Hughes when he produced a knife and stabbed her.

And Dr. Wolfgang Spangenberger, a general surgeon at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital who treated Ms Hayward, earlier testified that she suffered a partially-collapsed left lung and sustained some injury to her spleen which led him to classify the injuries as "life threatening''.

The trial, due to legal arguments, was scheduled to resume on Monday morning before Puisne Judge Richard Ground.
