alleged that he had again sexually interfered with his daughter.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded guilty to sexual exploiting his then 13-year-old daughter in January last year. He was released on a two-year probation a month later but the court heard that he had again touched the girl's vagina at two separate locations on August 27 this year after a drinking spree.

In Supreme Court yesterday Puisne Judge Norma Wade Miller said she had gone out of her way to give the man a chance last time.

She said: "You will recall when you were here last I went out on a limb for you. There was some public outcry. I stood by you saying you should be given a chance.

She added: "There is no alternative but to sentence you to a period of one year.'' It is thought the Department of Public Prosecutions will now charge the accused over the new allegations of sexual abuse.

Mrs. Norma Wade Miller urged the man to get counselling for an alcohol problem. Time spent in custody will be taken into account.

Asked if he anything to say the 56-year-old defendant said: "If I didn't pick up that first drink maybe I wouldn't be here today.'' At his sentencing last year the defendant had also blamed his action on drink.

His probation had specified he stay off alcohol, not have any contact with a child unless another adult was present and not have contact with his children unless the mother, from whom he is separated, was present.

At yesterday's hearing Crown Counsel Patrick Doherty told the court how the accused began drinking early in the day before dropping off the mother at work. He then went to the Ex-Artillery Men's Club in Victoria Street, Hamilton, and then the Mid Atlantic Club on North Shore Road, Devonshire, where he drank more beer before going to the mother's house where his son asked to go for a drive.

Sex offender jailed The accused took drove him and the daughter, now 15, to a school field in Southampton where he let the son drive the car.

A witness who knew him saw the defendant get in the back where he kissed his daughter and touched her vagina.

Later that same day the man picked up his daughter and took her to Southampton Rangers club where he again drank more beer.

In his statement to Police the accused said he had kissed his daughter and touched her vagina while the pair sat in his car.

His defence Counsel Tyrone Chin said in court yesterday that threats were made against his client by Police to get him to make this statement. He said: "He signed this statement almost to get the officer of his back.''
