Bermuda wiped off globe in C&W promotion

A world map produced as part of a Cable & Wireless promotion has omitted one of its oldest telecommunication bases -- Bermuda.

The grand A3 sized globe has been produced as part of a publicity campaign in Britain, but officials in Bermuda were disappointed to see that the Island that has a very long association with the company was left out. And now after contacting C&W headquarters in the UK, a probe has been launched to establish just why Bermuda was lost in the vast plains of the Atlantic.

The map -- titled "Around the World in 80 minutes on us'' -- was sent to The Royal Gazette by a "proud Bermudian living the UK'', who said "Where has Bermuda gone?'' The poster promotes phone call offers from the UK to North America, Australia and New Zealand.

But Bermuda isn't the only country that has been "lost in space''.

Investigations by C&W marketing communications manager John Instone revealed that other countries have been consigned to the "land that time forgot''.

Mr. Instone said Cable & Wireless Communications in the UK are currently trying to establish why Bermuda had been omitted.

"Close inspection of this particular map shows that there are several other territories omitted, for example Acension Island, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Anguilla St. Helena, Tristan da Cunha, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Maarten to name a few.'' MAPS MAP
