Spring flowers to be theme of Westmeath show
at the Westmeath flower show, to be held at the Pitts Bay Road seniors' residence next Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19.
Organiser Mrs. Elizabeth Wingate said anyone with an interest in flower arranging could submit entries for judging in seven categories, for which prizes will be awarded.
Five categories open to everyone, and two specifically for children up to age 17 and seniors, offered entrants plenty of creative opportunity.
Entries could be submitted in any of the following categories, the names of reflect links to the Emerald Isle: A: 40 shades of Green (large standing floor arrangement) B: Crock of Gold (niche) C: Book of Kells (table arrangement) D: Emerald Isle (petite arrangement) E: St. Patrick's Posy (small arrangement) F: Spring Rainbow (basket arrangement) -- seniors only G: Fairy Fantasy -- children up to age 17 only.
Mrs. Wingate said competitors could complete their arrangements at Westmeath on Friday, March 17 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m, and on Saturday, March 18 between 7.45 a.m. and 9.45 a.m.
Those interested in participating were advised to contact Mrs. Wingate at 295-4344 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday only), or in the evening at 238-8658 for further information and specific requirements.
The flower show will be open to the public on March 18 and 19 between 12 noon and 4 p.m. The price of admission ($3 general, $2 for seniors) will include afternoon tea, and all proceeds will benefit Westmeath, a registered charity.
