at Bramshill Police College in the United Kingdom, Delegated Affairs Minister the Hon. Irving Pearman told the House of Assembly yesterday.

But Government is working to change that, Mr. Pearman said. "The senior staff training at Bramshill Police College is only for Police officers serving in England and Wales , therefore officers serving in Bermuda would not qualify and...no officers from the Bermuda Police Force attended in the years 1980 to 1984,'' he said.

Mr. Pearman was responding to Parliamentary Questions from Shadow Delegated Affairs Minister Mrs. Lois Browne Evans .

"Inquiries are being made,'' about changing the rules so officers working in Bermuda can attend the course, he said.

Mr. Pearman said officers from Bermuda have been eligible to take another course offered at Bramshill, one in overseas command.

The current Commissioner who is about to retire, Mr. Lennett (Lennie) Edwards, took that course in 1983, and Assistant Commissioner Wayne Perinchief took it in 1989, Mr. Pearman said. No Bermuda officers have taken the course since.

Mrs. Browne Evans then asked whether the names of any officers who had taken the overseas command course were forwarded to the Public Service Commission as candidates to fill the vacancies created by the immiment retirements of Mr.

Edwards and Deputy Commissioner Mr. Alex Forbes.

Mr. Pearman said they were not.

Government has hired two top English officers to fill the two most senior posts in Bermuda.

Also yesterday, Mrs. Browne Evans asked if Mr. Pearman had noticed "an eight to ten year gap,'' in the curriculum vitae of Mr. Michael Mylod, the Deputy Commissioner designate from England.

Mr. Pearman said he could not comment on that. And Shadow Labour and Home Affairs Minister Mr. Alex Scott asked Mr. Pearman how many new work permits were issued between April 1 and December 31, 1994, compared to the same period a year earlier.

Mr. Pearman said the 1994 figure was 2,669, down by 438 from the 3,107 permits issued during the same period in 1993.
