Police and the Health and Safety Department were looking into the accident at the Bermuda International Airport which occurred around noon on Thursday.

American Airlines Flight 897 had arrived at the Airport and the mobile steps were being positioned outside the aircraft's front doors. Before they were in position, an American Airlines' customer service employee climbed the steps and lost his footing.

His left ankle was trapped briefly between the aircraft and the heavy duty rubber bumper at the top of the steps.

His injuries were not believed to be serious but he was taken to hospital for X-rays.
