The convention, with the theme "Joyful Praisers'', was one of 181 district conventions being held in the United States and Bermuda, church spokesman said.

The event was expected to host some 750 delegates from all over the world and was being held in 12 different languages including Portuguese and American Sign Language.

Highlights of the convention began on Friday at 10 a.m. with the chairman Mr.

David Branco opening the event.

Mr. Branco's address "Set apart as Joyful Praisers Worldwide'' explained why Jehovah's Witnesses were "joyful''.

"It is our united worship of Jehovah,'' he said. "No matter where we live on this earth we speak and teach in agreement. All of us using the same methods to declare the abundance of his goodness.'' Mr. Branco also spoke of the situation in Rwanda where "four hundred Jehovah's Witnesses were innocent victims of civil war''.

Included in Friday's programme was a youth talk given by Mr. Jesse Graham entitled "Youths Who Remember Their Creator''.

Mr. Graham urged the youth to be careful of their association and he used Bible and modern day examples to help them see the value and benefits of worshipping their creator in their youth.

A Baptism service conducted by Mr. Wilbur Rawlins was scheduled to take place today at 11:30 a.m. And a Bible drama will be performed by Mr. Trevor Tucker on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The final address to the public will be by Mr. Leroy Kent on Sunday at 1:50 p.m. It is entitled "Praise the King of Eternity''.

Admission to the event is free and no collection will be taken. Members urge the public to come out and enjoy.
