the late, well-known boat builder Geary Pitcher.

St. George's South MP Arthur Pitcher said until Mr. Pitcher's death this week he was the oldest male resident in the St. David's area.

The MP said he talked with the 94-year-old shortly before the November election and found a man surrounded by his family.

He spoke fondly of the avid fishermen who "built his own boats and made his own rope''.

And he said the nonagenarian -- who was known for catching more fish with fewer pots than anyone else -- was an active member of the church.

Earlier this year, Mr. Pitcher was featured on the cover of The Royal Gazette during his visit to the Clearwater Middle School as a guest of honour in the school's Heritage Assembly.
