The Bermuda Fire Service was called to the single-storey home on Dock Hill shortly after 10 a.m. a spokesman said.

Fire damage was confined to the kitchen, while the rest of the house suffered heat and smoke damage, he said.

Nobody was home at the time, and the alarm was turned in by a neighbour. Four vehicles and 13 firefighters were sent to the scene. The cause is under investigation.

The couple, with two children, has arranged to stay at a guest house temporarily, he said.

On Wednesday, fire caused $1,800 damage to a car in Sandys, the Fire Service said.

The fire on East Shore Lane was extinguished by the owner when he discovered the blaze at about 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, a spokesman said.

Damage was confined to the engine and bonnet, he said. The cause was unknown yesterday.
