recovering in hospital after being found at the foot of an embankment half a mile from her home.

Mrs. Dorothy Smith, of Prism Heights, spent the night out in the open before she was found on Thursday morning after an extensive Police search.

She had been missing for more than 14 hours.

The search began for the elderly woman -- who was wearing only a dark green dress and a pair of slippers -- at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday after she had failed to turn up at a neighbour's house for tea earlier in the afternoon.

The search was called off when darkness fell.

At 7 a.m. on Thursday morning, 20 Police officers -- including several off-duty officers -- gathered near Lighthouse Hill and resumed their search in the area south of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse.

After 45 minutes a search unit located the missing woman lying on the ground at the foot of a 10-foot embankment.

The woman apparently travelled about half a mile through dense undergrowth before falling down the embankment.

Police took Mrs. Smith to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where spokesperson Mrs. Kendaree Burgess-Fairn said she was resting comfortably on a general ward.
