Regiment cans Colour Sgt.

Colour Sgt. Wayne Augustus is no longer employed as a full-time staff instructor at the Bermuda Regiment, according to Regiment authorities.

?We have uncovered some improprieties and the person responsible will have to suffer the consequences,? said Regiment commanding officer Lt. Col. Eddie Lamb. During the course of normal checks it was revealed that things had not been done as they should have, he said, ?and for that he must answer?.

Though Lt. Col. Lamb characterised the improprieties as being ?of a serious nature,? he would not go in to details. Regiment PR spokesperson Lt. Wayne Caines said only: ?Unsubstantiated allegations have been made, but we cannot confirm the nature of those allegations,? he said.

Lt. Caines said Lt. Col. Lamb has launched a full investigation into the matter. ?Once that is completed the necessary steps will be taken.?

When asked if Sgt. Augustus would be returned to the Regiment if the allegations proved unfounded, Lt. Caines said: ?If the allegations prove unfounded the Colonel will then assess the situation and make decisions from there.?

Sgt. Augustus could not be contacted for comment last night.
