compete in the Inter School Debate Competition along with several other high school students.

Forty Berkeley debaters, ranging in age from 11 to 16, have spent their last 10 lunch hours in the lecture hall where they have been arguing over whether "mankind will be the next dinosaur.'' Affirmative team Jonathan Richardson and Rahson Smith, both 13, won their last debate on Thursday with their arguments that human beings will become extinct like dinosaurs.

Mr. Wayne Morgan of Johnson and Higgins, who was one of the judges, presented the boys with a gavel, and lamp of knowledge medallions which were also given to the negative team.

Twenty-eight people from the community acted as judges throughout the two week discussion.

Debate coach and co-ordinator Mr. Gladston Thompson said: "We are very comfortable and prepared for the competition in January. This was our second debate competition this year.

The Inter School Competition will be looking for eight representatives to travel for a debate in New Zealand in August.
