Miss World contest in Sun City, South Africa on Saturday.

Winning the coveted title, which comes with $185,000 worth of prizes, was 18-year-old television announcer from Jamaica, Lisa Hanna.

Jaqueline Mofokeng, 21, who was the first black woman to win the Miss South Africa title, was first runner-up, while Miss Philippines, 19-year-old Sharmaine Gutierrez, was second runner-up.

But the local beauty did win the hearts of the South African children she met and at least one judge -- actor Louis Gossett Jr.

In an interview two days before the competition, Miss Hall told The Royal Gazette she "hit it off'' with Gossett after he told her he had been to Bermuda several times and asked if "we still ate codfish and potatoes on the weekends''.

Miss Hall couldn't be reached for comment last night.
