PLP Drum Major awards recipients announced
Community workers who give up their time to help Bermuda will be honoured at the Drum Major awards on Saturday, February 20.The awards, presented by the Progressive Labour Party, will go to tennis coach Sam Maybury , former school principal Melvyn Bassett and Kenneth Bartram of the Duke of Edinburgh programme. Other awards will go to Marlene Smith for community service and the Bermuda Police Reserves for their dedication to community safety.The awards are part of the 48th annual Founders’ Day luncheon which celebrates the party’s founding fathers. The guest speaker will be 30-year-old doctor Kyjuan Brown. A member of the first graduating class of CedarBridge Academy.The afternoon event at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel will also see a skit written and directed by Bermudian playwright Patricia Nisbett performed by CedarBridge Academy students paying tribute to the founding fathers of the PLP.Tickets cost $60 and available by calling party headquarters at Alaska Hall on 292-2264 or visiting the office.
