Police said both businesses and at least one resident have been approached asking them to invest in a Spanish lottery and a UK-based version of the same game.

In the first incident, people were initially contacted in Canada by the Worldwide Lottery Commission asking them to take part in its El Gordo, or the `Fat One', Spanish Lottery.

But the information was passed to a Bermuda-based company, asking it to take part in the lottery which offers an `Instant Win Bonus' and a guaranteed $500 prize.

In the second incident, a UK-based version of the same lottery contacted a Bermuda resident and police say further contacts with people on the Island are expected.
