The Minister spoke out in the House of Assembly following an apology in The Royal Gazette from MP Ottiwell Simmons (PLP), for remarks he made about the hotel last week.

The Pembroke East MP claimed the hotel had lost its way as a training centre for Bermudians entering the hospitality industry and it was his aim to get it back on track.

His remarks upset Stonington management and staff, and led to general manager Esan Frederick demanding an apology -- which he received.

Mr. Lister moved in to redress the situation and finally put the issue to bed.

He said: "Ottiwell Simmons made some comments relating to the Stonington Beach Hotel and those remarks resulted in members of staff feeling somewhat hard done by.

"Mr. Simmons has since issued a press release...he has done this quite willingly, realising that his statement did cause some concern to the hotel.

"The hotel in response has met with him and indicated that they accepted his apology.'' The Minister said the hotel was looking forward to working with Mr. Simmons in his role on the National Training Board.

He said there was mutual respect between the two, and he was sure the MP would do an excellent job there and would get cooperation of both Stonington and Bermuda College.
