Local stocks improve
or 2.32 percent to close at 1,568.53, as three shares increased in value and three other shares fell.
Share volume for the week totalled 40,599 shares with a total value of $904,562. Friday's trade of 9,000 bonds, with a value of $8,640, represented the week's only bond trading.
The two large local banks were among the week's winners. The Bank of Bermuda was up $1 on the week to close at $35 on volume of 15,886 shares, with the Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Ltd. gaining 50 cents to close at $17 on volume of 3,826.
The week's other gainer was Belco Holdings Ltd., up $1 to close at $23.
Among decliners, Devonshire Industries Ltd. fell 75 cents on the week to close at $12, Argus Insurance Co. Ltd. was off 40 cents for the week to close at $17 and Staples Holdings Ltd. 10 percent preferred fell 50 cents to close at $7.50.
