impressive day of trading on Friday helped push the Index up more than 21 points or two percent for the week.

The Exchange Index closed at 1091.56, up 21.57 points or 2.01 percent on the previous Friday's close.

There were 40,437 shares with a value of $680,227.63 traded during the week.

Just 10,000 bonds -- worth $10,642.50 -- changed hands.

BF&M 9% preference shares were the most active issue, with 11,000 traded. They closed at $10, down 50 cents on last Friday's close.

Bank of Bermuda, which closed at $20 -- 50 cents off its high for the year and one dollar up on last Friday -- saw 8,856 shares traded.

Belco was also active with 8,000 shares exchanged. It closed at $18.875, up 12.5 cents on last Friday.

Bank of Butterfield lost a dollar during the week, closing on Friday at $31.

Trading was light with 3,474 shares exchanged.*l
