Childnet International 2001 Awards will be October 31, 2000.

The awards go to children, and those working with them, who develop outstanding interactive Internet projects that benefit other children worldwide.

Eddie Saints, the general manager of Cable & Wireless Bermuda, said: "At a time when Bermuda is increasingly becoming a centre for e-commerce and dot.com activity, I am delighted that Cable & Wireless is promoting this children's awards programme to encourage the ways that the Internet can benefit children.

"I very much hope that schools, non-profit organisations and individuals working in Bermuda will consider entering this prestigious programme and learn from the work of other children.'' Childnet development manager Stephen Carrick-Davies added: "The Childnet Awards are unique in that special emphasis is placed on projects or ideas that are international in nature and where kids using technology to connect with other children to develop projects which really benefit other children.

"I very much hope that projects from Bermuda will not only enter this awards programme, but will link up and learn from some of the previous winning projects.'' There are four categories for entries: individuals, schools, non-profit organisations and government-funded strategic initiatives.

The awards ceremony will be held in Washington DC in April of next year.
