The Index closed up 2.3 percent at 1,482.63. Trading was moderate, with 33,482 shares valued at $791,038.60 changing hands.

The Bank of Bermuda was the most active stock as it rose $1.25 or 4.3 percent to close at $20.25 on volume of 19,557. Belco Holdings climbed 40 cents to $20.50 as 3,360 shares were traded.

Bank of Butterfield was off five cents to close at $16.95 on volume of 7,685, while Bermuda Hospital Board bonds fell $4 to $105 on volume of 20,000 units.
