Young Bermudians have a chance to join with an international youth group and travel the world.

On Sunday, the well known Up With People organisation -- which gives young people the chance to experience different cultures and help communities -- will be recruiting for its next programme.

Around 40 of the 300-strong cast are in Bermuda and were recruiting for Bermudians at their Dockyard show yesterday.

Lisa Brockie, community service project coordinator, said on Friday she hoped many locals would be interested in joining.

"We will be doing interviews,'' she said. "We are hoping to get many Bermudians. We want to increase our representation from the Island in our future cast.'' Applicants should be aged between 17 and 25.

On Friday, children at Sandys Middle school were treated to a taste of what the cast was to perform on Sunday.

In colourful costumes, the group sang songs and performed dances from different countries around the world.

Later, they went into the classes and led workshops on subjects such as self esteem and leadership skills.

Sandys Middle school principal Melvyn Bassett said the event, sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda, was a continuation of the studies that the students were doing.

"We are grateful to be included in their programme, it is a wonderful opportunity for the children,'' he said.

Up With People is completing 12 days of community service around the Island and will be departing for Canada next Saturday.
