Bermuda fall to Jamaica
3-2 in a pulsating match in Kingston, Jamaica, yesterday.
Stunned by two goals inside the first 10 minutes, Bermuda staged an amazing second-half recovery on goals from Shawn Goater and Neil Paynter.
But after 73 minutes, seven minutes after Paynter's equaliser the midfielder conceded a penalty with a handball, which Hector Wright converted. Full story on Page 19 Wright produced the game's opening goal in the fifth minute and Bermuda were reeling when Roderick Reid hit the second three minutes later.
Jamaica had a host of other chances to increase their lead but were let down by poor finishing before Bermuda staged its comeback.
Second-half pressure was capped by goals from Goater and Paynter before Jamaica induced the penalty on a counter-attack.
Bermuda, despite conceding seven goals in two matches, are still alive in group B of the CONCACAF second-round qualifers as El Salvador beat Canada 3-2 in Vancouver later yesterday.
But they need to take three points off Canada in the final two games and hope El Salvador, the new group leaders, beat Jamaica twice.
