The Development Applications Board recently dismissed a proposal to demolish the long-closed Plantation restaurant on its three-acre strip of land in Bailey's Bay.

Developers planned to create a two-unit dwelling with five parking spaces, and a two-storey building housing a restaurant, office, and three dwelling units.

Twenty-eight parking spaces were also planned.

The plan also included a five-dwelling unit with swimming pool and four parking spaces.

Last year, the DAB rejected a similar proposal despite an approval recommendation from the Planning Department.

But the latest Planning Department documents stated officials were still unable to assess the development's possible impact on the "very environmentally sensitive site''.

They also pointed out a possible lack of parking and the close proximity of a nature reserve.

And farther east in St. George's, the DAB refused permission to extend the al fresco dining facilities of the Somers Wharf on Water Street.

Planning documents stated it was unclear whether the proposal would "significantly'' increase the capacity of the restaurant and pub.

And they pointed out the Corporation of St. George and Meyer Company had not responded to a request for further information.
