Mother furious over Belco' `soot blow'
Company after black soot fell on parts of Pembroke over the weekend.
Ms Marsha Dubois says it is not the first time that she has found the soot in her garden and on her car.
And BELCO has admitted that there was a "soot blow'' which affected properties near its Serpentine Road headquarters.
Ms Dubois said: "We went to bed as normal and then in the morning there were soot particles everywhere.
"It was not a thick covering on the ground but there were a lot of these particles on my porch and on my car. It was quite a heavy fall.
"They must have come from BELCO, because they tend to pump all sorts into the air at night. It is not the first time we have had a fall of soot like this at night. They tend to do it then, when no-one can see what it is happening.'' Ms Dubois is worried about the health risk, especially to her three-month-old baby son Joshua. She said: "It is going into the drinking water, that's for sure.'' And she called for an investigation into why BELCO belched soot every so often.
A BELCO spokesperson admitted that the soot was from the BELCO plant and said there had been a problem which is being investigated. She asked any resident who wished to complain to phone the company's Environmental Line on 299-2802.
