Bermuda's World Cup dream ends
World Cup as they were beaten into submission by pre-tournament favourites Holland in Saturday's ICC Trophy third place match in Kenya.
The margin of victory was a whopping 103 runs in favour of the Dutch as they seized the opportunity to become the third and final country to qualify for the World Cup to be held in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Holland join newly crowned ICC champions United Arab Emirates and the host nation Kenya, who were defeated yesterday by UAE, in advancing to the World Cup which involves the major cricketing nations.
Meanwhile, Bermuda were left with a fourth place finish and thoughts of what might have been.
Once again sub-par bowling by the Island proved to be the death knell, allowing for a score in excess of 300 runs by the opponents, with Holland amassing 306 runs while losing just two wickets.
Always under the gun chasing such a target Bermuda's batsmen were slowed by a conversely stringent opposing attack and after making a promising start rapidly fell out of contention as the required run rate escalated and wickets tumbled.
The team are due to return home on Tuesday.
