May 24 Marathon Derby when he won yesterday's Pure Water 10-K in stunning fashion.

The New Zealander was in rare form as he romped to victory in a record time of 32 minutes, 33 seconds bettering the mark established last year by Kavin Smith.

Smith, who is rumoured to be at odds with the road running hierarchy, was absent from the field as was Tracy Wright, and Forgesson took full advantage.

Kevin Tucker offered a spirited challenge for a while, but he was clearly out of his depth against a resurgent Forgesson. Tucker eventually settled for second with a time of 33:28 while Greg Hopkins (34:55) was third.

Meanwhile, Karen Adams similarly announced herself as the leading contender among the women after she deposed defending champion Maria Conroy Haydon.

Adams, who won previously when the race was called the Sun Life 10-K, clocked 37:02 over the loop course to finish just under 30 seconds ahead of Conroy Haydon (37:29).

Third home was Julia Hawley (39:32).

Hopkins easily topped the masters list, trailed by Rod Allen (35:42) and Jeremy Ball (35:59).

On the women's side, Debbie Butterfield (40:49) emerged as the queen of the pack out-pacing her nearest competitor, Barbara Clemens, by more than five minutes.

Clemens clocked 47:17 with Caroline Jones third in 48:18.
