Germel Williams, 26, of Union Street, Pembroke pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Friday to escaping from lawful custody on February 9.

Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told the court that at 12.20 p.m. uniformed officers escorted Williams from the court to Hamilton Police Station.

Williams, who was in court for various traffic matters, had been granted bail with the condition that he find a surety.

He was taken into custody by the Police jailer as he waited for his surety.

But at 12.53 p.m., while the jailer's attention was occupied with another detainee, Williams ran out of the station.

Williams eluded Police on February 12, but was brought in on February 26 by his mother.

Just before Friday's proceedings began, a distraught and sobbing Williams was escorted from the courtroom until he had regained composure.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis told Williams: "I understand that you are distressed by another matter. I'll give you a nominal fine of $300.'' Williams was in court on February 9 for mention for two trials and a sentencing after a social inquiry report.
