The two were running along the beach when they saw the 56-year-old man come out of the water and lay down and thought nothing of it.

When they returned, just after 7 p.m., they noticed that his face was blue and called 911 before administering CPR.

The Police, Fire Service and ambulance arrived and took the unconscious victim to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was scheduled for yesterday, but the cause of death has not been revealed.

The man, who has not yet been named by Police, was staying at the Elbow Beach Hotel with two other men from Liechtenstein.

Elbow Beach Hotel spokeswoman Kendaree Burgess-Fairn said: "The management and staff of Elbow Beach would like to express their sympathy to the friends and family of the deceased.''
