Two courses entitled "How To Stimulate Your Creative Flow'' and "The Craft and Business of Songwriting,'' will provide insights into the creative and business aspects of producing a successful song.

Local songwriter Mr. Richard Bassett, together with jazz musician Mr. Ron Lightbourne, brought the couple to the Island with the backing of the Arts Council and Ministry of Community Affairs.

"I had the idea a long time ago because there are quite a few songwriters in Bermuda,'' Mr. Bassett said. "This is a unique opportunity for Bermudians. It is a chance to gather this information from people who have had considerable experience in the entertainment business.'' Mr. Bassett said the seminars, which are very common in the United States, provided a wealth of information for songwriters wanting to improve their work and learn how to market themselves more effectively.

"Not only do you become more focused as a songwriter,'' he said, "but you make critical business contacts. It is a very competitive industry where you need skills to help to maximise your appeal.'' The first seminar will be held today at the Hamilton Princess from 5 p.m. The cost is $25, with a reduced rate of $20 for under-19s. Tomorrow's all-day seminar begins at 10 a.m. and will cost $50, $40 for under-19s.
