Grotto Bay to implement Zack Award wage increases
the Zack Award.
And another former HEB property, Elbow Beach, is studying the award and will make a decision soon.
The hotel division of the Bermuda Industrial Union met yesterday to discuss the HEB's stance.
In a prepared statement, BIU president Mr. Ottiwell Simmons said: "The hotel workers and members of the BIU are pleased to have received the report of the HEB that wages and other conditions of employment provided by the Zack Award will be implemented as soon as possible.
"The membership also received information that, in addition to the HEB members signing the agreement, Grotto Bay Hotel has committed itself to sign.
"...The membership is committed to stand in solidarity until all the hotels sign the agreement and this includes the 12 which withdrew their membership from the HEB along with Pink Beach, Mermaid Beach Club, Palm Reef and any other hotels that operate in Bermuda and have BIU membership or potential membership in it.'' HEB members, Southampton Princess, Hamilton Princess, Sonesta Beach, Marriott's Castle Harbour, Belmont and Harmony Club met on Wednesday to discuss the awards. Wages are to increase by 3.2 percent in each of the first two years and 3.5 percent in the third.
