Smith, of Deepdale Road East, is charged with the premeditated murder of Canadian teenager Rebecca Middleton and Mundy, a Jamaican national of Brunswick Street, Pembroke, is charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Both men were remanded in custody until August 8 at which time the Crown will report on the progress they have made in preparing their case.

Lawyer Archie Warner, representing Smith, asked the court to set a date for a long form preliminary inquiry so that it could be determined whether there is enough evidence to charge his client.

Crown counsel Khamisi Tokunbo said he was unable to give an indication when the necessary documents would be ready because of the complexity of the matter.

Mrs. Mapp then set a date for August 8 at which time the Crown is expected to report progress.
