A Royal Navy sailor is in hot water after being found snoozing in a wren's bunk on a frigate in Bermuda, The Royal Gazette understands.

The incident has rocked the boat with Navy top brass who have reportedly launched a top level probe.

And now the trainee officer, said to be in his early 20s, could face a court martial.

News about the incident on HMS Broadsword has reached Britain, and yesterday the London-based Press Association (PA) carried a small report.

The Royal Gazette received inquiries from British tabloid, Today.

According to PA, the sailor had gone ashore with a wren in Bermuda for a drinking spree.

He returned to the frigate and decided to go to the wren's mess where, it is understood, he was given the "cold shoulder''.

The PA reported the man fell asleep in a bunk, only to be awoken in the morning by another officer.

Now he could be dismissed from the Navy.

Naval sources quoted by PA said there was no question of "sexual impropriety''. But disciplinary action could be taken for other possible offences.

HMS Broadsword , which had been in the Caribbean as a West Indies Guardship, took part in the bicentennial celebration of HMS Malabar.

It berthed off Front Street last Thursday, and left on Monday.
