getting a statement about alleged witness tampering handed over from the prosecution.

John Perry, QC, demanded that the Crown should release a statement made by a narcotics officer alleging that some of her colleagues tried to persuade her into lying to a court.

Yesterday Puisne Judge Norma Wade sided with the defence and ordered that the statement be released to Mr. Perry.

She also ordered that other documents, including an officer's notes of an interview, should be handed over to the defence by June 5.

The order came on the second day of Supreme Court arguments between Crown counsel Khamisi Tokunbo and Mr. Perry over the release of the statement.

A narcotics officer made the statement alleging that some narcotics officers attempted to persuade her to commit perjury or pervert the course of justice in connection with Wilson's trial.

Through her solicitor, the officer contacted the Police Commissioner Colin Coxall on Monday, who informed the Attorney General on Tuesday.

As a result of the allegations Police have launched a top-level investigation headed by Deputy Commissioner Jean Jacques Lemay.

Seven narcotics officers are investigating Wilson's drug charges, but it is not known how many are involved in the allegations.

Wilson's trial, which was due to begin on Wednesday, was delayed until June 19 because of the internal Police investigation.

Wilson, of Mount Hill, Pembroke, is charged with possession of diamorphine intended for supply and handling diamorphine intended for supply. He denies both charges.
