Bermuda yesterday.

The Puerto Ricans, aged 25 and 32, reportedly became unruly after Tower Air flight number 51 left New York for Puerto Rico close to 1 p.m.

It is understood one of the men punched a passenger who tried to stop a flight attendant from being harassed.

Police said the captain was given permission to land in Bermuda.

Police and Immigration officials met the flight on the runway and handcuffed the Puerto Ricans before taking them to the Airport Police station.

There were no reported injuries on the flight and it was able to take off shortly after landing in Bermuda.

Police spokesman P.c. Alan Oliver said he was not in a position to say whether or not the men would be charged. It is believed to be unlikely. He said: "Efforts are underway to have these people repatriated to the US mainland.''
