Tenor Burgess back for shows
Parish Church this weekend. The well-known tenor, Associate Professor of Voice and Opera at the State University of New York at Buffalo, is returning briefly to Bermuda to perform in aid of the 35th Anniversary Concert Gala of the Adult Education School.
Mr. Burgess, who has appeared with many international companies, including the Metropolitan Opera and the Warsaw State Opera, was awarded the Prix de Claude Debussy in Paris in 1984. He is credited as the founder of the Greater Buffalo Opera Company and has been Artistic Director since its inception.
Pianist and organist, Mr. Lloyd Matthews, another leading Bermudian musician, will accompany Mr. Burgess for the Saturday and Sunday evening concerts.
They will perform a programme which includes songs by Mozart, Schumann and Rieger. The second half will concentrate on traditional American music, including a selection of Early American Songs by Aaron Copland, and will end with Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Music of the Night.
