PLP Sen. Calvin Smith said the Volunteer Liability Act 2000 would nip in the bud any US-style litigation which would discourage people from offering help to accident victims. Sen. Smith paid tribute to people who had helped him when he had his recent car accident.
But he explained people could still be liable for gross negligence under the Act.
For example, those serving free food, which they had allowed to get contaminated, would not be saved by the Act.
