Darrell steals the show with five-wicket burst
Gary Sobers once hit in an over, but 12-year-old Northlands schoolboy Vance Darrell will be no less proud of his own magnificent achievement on Tuesday this week in a cricket match at St. John's Field.
Whitney's under-14 team was cruising to victory against Northlands when Darrell, a left-arm spinner, turned the match in his one and only over, grabbing the amazing figures of five wickets for two runs.
After restricting Northlands to 78-6 from their allotted overs with some tight bowling, Whitney appeared set for victory as they moved to within 22 of the target with four overs remaining.
But it was then that young Darrell made his appearance.
He took a wicket with his first ball, and conceded two runs off the next. But he then claimed wickets on his last four balls to leave Whitney reeling 12 runs short of their target.
