The accident happened on Harbour Road between the junctions of Cobbs Hill Road and Manse Road at about 6.30 p.m. Two cycles and a car are thought to have been involved.

Police called to the scene cordoned off a section of the road. An ambulance was called and rushed the teenager to hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed the crash victim underwent emergency surgery.

He was then placed in intensive care where his condition last night was described as stable.
