slavery period during a lecture given by Dr. Moira Ferguson at Berkeley Institute this evening.

Dr. Ferguson is holder of the James E. Ryan Chair in English in Women's Literature at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

She will deliver the inaugural Dr. Kenneth Ellsworth Robinson Memorial Lecture, titled "The Voice of Freedom: Mary Prince''.

"I will be talking about the significance of Mary Prince's life and experience,'' Dr. Ferguson said. "She is an international cultural figure whose history is finally being recognised.

"She's the first black female to record the history of her enslavement and also post enslavement.

"I will be giving a historical analysis of what the book means to Bermuda history and world history.'' The lecture will begin at 7.30 p.m. in the school's assembly hall.
