Dr. John Cann was speaking following the release of new statistics which show that the deadly disease claimed another two lives in September. The total death toll on the Island now stands at 316.

"We are confident that we are getting our message across but we are not confident that the message is having an affect on people's behaviour,'' Dr.

Cann said.

"We speak to students and it's clear that they are getting the message. But we are uncomfortable because we don't see any real change in their behaviour.'' The statistics, produced by the Department of Health, show that a further three cases were diagnosed in the month, bringing the total number of cases diagnosed to 399 since records began in the early 1980s.

So far this year the deadly, disease has claimed the lives of five women and seven men, all but one of them black. Ten of the 12 were aged between 30 and 49.

Half of this year's victims were in the low risk heterosexual, non-drug abuse category. Five other victims were intravenous drug users and the twelfth was a bisexual.
