Medini takes on ACE accounting role

ACE Limited has announced the appointment of Paul Medini to the post of chief accounting officer for ACE Limited.

Mr. Medini assumes the post previously held by Robert Blee, who was named to the newly-created role of chief compliance officer in March. Mr. Medini joins ACE from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a partner with over 22 years of experience in their property/casualty insurance practice.

Mr. Medini is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from Pace University in New York. Mr. Medini will be based in Bermuda and report directly to Philip Bancroft, chief financial officer of ACE Limited.

Allied World Assurance Company, Ltd (AWAC) has appointed Steven Musicant as assistant vice president in its casualty facultative reinsurance department. In his new role, Mr. Musicant will produce and underwrite individual risk and programme business from the US casualty facultative broker marketplace. Mr. Musicant was previously vice president and facultative reinsurance broker at Guy Carpenter & Co., Inc. of Philadelphia.

He has 18 years of experience underwriting primary and reinsurance with The Hartford Insurance Group, General Reinsurance Corporation, and PMA Reinsurance.

When asked what he hopes to achieve at AWAC, Mr. Musicant said: "I am eager to bring my experience to bear in attracting a profitable and diverse book to AWAC. I feel that my experience underwriting first primary, then reinsurance business, for a direct reinsurance market, and then for a broker market reinsurer, in addition to having brokered reinsurance business has given me a very broad perspective on the facultative reinsurance marketplace. I am also excited to work with the excellent team that has been assembled here."

Mr. Musicant holds an undergraduate degree from Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, and an associate in reinsurance degree from the Insurance Institute, Malvern, Pennsylvania.
