"I would like to make a plea for all of Bermuda to do everything it can to assist the officers in feeling welcome and in assimilating into our community,'' he said during the Motion to Adjourn in Senate on Wednesday.

Sen. Burgess also asked the public to throw its support behind the Police Service as a whole, rather than taking "pot-shots'' at it.

"It does very little good to be negative at this organisation, which we must not forget is on the front line of fighting crime,'' he said. "They really need our full support in order to properly get on with the task at hand.''
