Burt was given a conditional discharge on Monday by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner who warned him that if he breaches the discharge for "this foolishness'' again, he will be sent for psychiatric care.

Mr. Warner added: "This behaviour is not only unacceptable, it causes Police and this court valuable money.

"You come before me again for this foolishness and I'm sending you back to St. Brendan's. I'm not joking. You can't behave like this. Don't come back in the next 12 months.'' Crown counsel Oonagh Goodred said Police drove to the corner of Court and Church Streets at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

They found a fidgety Burt "naked, except for a pair of boots, with his back to the road, in full view, with his hand over his private parts''.

Burt, 34, of Euclid Avenue, denied using any drugs and ranted about being bitten by a snake.
