A headline in Friday's Business section should have said that the inflation rate for October declined to two percent, not by two percent.

The annual rate of inflation dropped to two percent for the 12 months to October from 2.2 percent for the year to September.

The Government said the average cost of the goods and services in the Consumer Price Index's "shopping basket'' increased 0.1 percent during October. The all items index rose from 106.5 points in September to 106.6 in October.

Within the main areas, the fuel and power sector posted the highest monthly change of 2.2 percent. Households paid more for electricity and a cylinder of gas as the average cost increased 2.2 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively.

The health and personal care index advanced 0.5 percent, due mainly to a 2.4 percent rise in the cost of doctor and dentist visits and a 0.2 percent rise in self-prescribed medicines. The price of the food basket rose 0.3 percent.

Items showing notable price movements included cabbage (up 4.7 percent), lettuce (up 4.3 percent), black grapes (up 3.7 percent), cantaloupe (up 3.1 percent), oranges (up 2.5 percent), bread (up 1.6 percent) and potatoes (up 1.4 percent).
