Contests for fire prevention week begin

They are being asked to produce posters on the theme "test your detector - it's sound advice.'' But for those who prefer words, there is always the chance to enter an essay competition on the same theme.

They are being asked to produce posters on the theme "test your detector - it's sound advice.'' But for those who prefer words, there is always the chance to enter an essay competition on the same theme.
Entrants in the poster contest will be split into different age groups; 6 and under; 7-10; 11-13; and 14 and over.
Their efforts should be submitted to the Fire Service by 5 p.m. on September 30.
The other contest is open to youngsters in the primary 5-7 and secondary 1-3 levels.
The younger entrants should describe what they would do if awakened by a smoke detector.
Those in the older age group should explain the importance of smoke alarms.
Entries should be handed in by 5 p.m. on September 28.
