This year, the social committee has chosen the Bermuda Special Olympics for their charity to raise money for.

The walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the Botanical Gardens. And walkers will travel along South Shore road to Spittal Pond and back. The whole walk is five miles and registration forms are available from committee members. There will be a nominal charge of $5.

The committee kicked off the year by starting a penny-a-thon for the public to drop off their pennies. Boxes are at the committees main offices on Front Street and at the Civil Air Terminal.

Bermuda Special Olympics is aiming to raise funds to take 34 athletes to the World games for Special Olympics in July. They will be competing with 7,000 athletes worldwide.

The mission of BSO is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all individuals who are mentally challenged.
