A prosecutor quickly corrected an error on a charge sheet this week after a defendant protested he did not have cocaine but cannabis in his possession.

"That's a mistake, your honour, I didn't have cocaine, I had cannabis," Will Carpenter, 34, of Friswell's Hill, Pembroke exclaimed after Crown counsel Anthony Blackman said he was charged with possession of cocaine in an increased penalty zone.

Mr. Blackman told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves, to amend the charge, after reading the summary of the arrest.

He noted that Police claimed they seized a "plant-like substance" from Carpenter when they stopped him outside the Bermuda Athletic Association field on Woodlands Road, Pembroke on March 12.

Mr. Greaves fined Carpenter $500.
