The 1994-95 harness racing season gets underway on Sunday and will feature 10 newcomers to the Vesey Street track.
Leading the influx is local horse affecionado Ellie Wilson, who has brought in two ponies, Melody Time and Grand Willy.
Melody Time is highly regarded and viewed as a potential challenger to track record holder Shamrock Tuxedo. Also being tipped as a major contender is another import, Carolina Jubilee, owned and driven by Murray Terciera.
All have as their target the amazing time of one minute, seven seconds, which Shamrock Tuxedo made during the final day of racing last season with Andy Stoneham as the driver in place of Eddie Roque.
On the fringe of making a real challenge are the likes of Ponderbabe, another newcomer Customized, along with regulars Eddie the Great, Grand Marshall, Gusto's Cracker Jack and Pleasant Surprise.
Racing commences at 1 p.m., and refreshments and seating are available.
DARTS DRT An enthusiastic squad of 17 players were scheduled to leave Bermuda early this morning for the Caribbean Darts Championships in Trinidad and Tobago which starts on Sunday.
Bermuda had hoped to be represented in each of the divisions -- individual, team, doubles and trebles, but whether or not they can improve on their previous best position of runner-up in the team event remains to be seen.
Officials, however, remain optimistic that the team will give a good account of themselves.
In addition to Bermuda, other countries involved in the tournament are Bahamas, Brazil, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Turks and Caicos and Trinidad and Tobago.
